Leadership by Design is operated by Mart Ratliff, a sole proprietorship in Watauga, Texas. This policy explains what this website collects, why it is collected, where it goes, and what choices you have. It is written to be read rather than survived.
What we collect
You do not need to create an account or identify yourself simply to read the site. Some technical and usage information is collected automatically when the site loads, as described below.
Information you give us in forms. Depending on the form, this may include your name, email address, organization, role, phone number, timing, budget range, event details, and answers you choose to provide about your organization or situation. Open-text fields are intended for business context. Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely necessary for the reason you are contacting us.
Seminar registration. Registration includes contact information, organization and role, postal address for seminar materials, event-related information, and answers about your organizational context. Payment information is processed by Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number. We may receive transaction status, transaction identifiers, and contact or shipping information needed to administer the purchase or event.
Book orders. A direct book order may require your name, email address, postal address, and payment information. Stripe processes the payment. We may receive the information needed to fulfill the order, but not your full card number.
The Leadership Wiring assessment. The assessment creates two separate records. First, the site stores the fourteen answers, scoring data, result, any tiebreak information, instrument version, and timestamp without attaching your name or email address to that record. Those answer-level records are used to evaluate how the instrument performs in real use. The site also temporarily hashes an IP address for rate limiting; that hash is held for approximately one hour and is not stored with the assessment record.
Your result document and email record are separate. If you ask to receive your result document, you provide an email address. Your assessment result is then recorded with that email address in Kit so that result-specific information can be sent to you. We therefore know which result is associated with your email address, but we do not connect your email address in Kit to the fourteen answer-level responses stored in the website database.
How the identified result is used. The result may be used to send the document you requested and, if you separately confirm a marketing subscription, to tailor Leadership by Design communications to the result or interests you selected. The assessment is not used by us to make hiring, promotion, employment, credit, insurance, medical, or other decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.
Analytics and device information. Google Analytics, implemented through MonsterInsights, receives information about use of the site such as pages viewed, browser and device information, referral source, and approximate geographic region. We use this to understand how the site is used and improve it. We do not use the analytics service to make individual employment or similar decisions about visitors.
Server logs. Hostinger and related hosting infrastructure record technical requests such as IP address, requested page, date and time, and browser or network information for security, availability, and diagnostics. Retention of provider logs is governed by provider settings and terms.
Partly completed forms
Two forms — consulting discovery and seminar registration — use a form-abandonment feature. Information entered into those forms may be saved before you press Submit, including if you leave the form unfinished. The purpose is to preserve an enquiry or registration in the event of interruption or technical failure.
If you do not want information from an unfinished form to be saved, do not enter it until you intend to send it, or contact us directly at hello@martratliff.com.
Why we use the information
- to answer enquiries and schedule or evaluate consulting, keynote, or other business conversations;
- to administer seminar registration, event preparation, receipts, materials, and attendance-related communications;
- to fulfill book or other product orders;
- to provide an assessment result or document that you requested;
- to send marketing communications when you have confirmed that you want them;
- to segment email communications by the interest, page, seminar, or assessment result associated with your subscription;
- to understand site traffic and improve the website, content, offers, and user experience;
- to protect the site, prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and comply with legal or accounting obligations.
Where information goes
Kit. Email marketing and segmentation. Kit may hold your name, email address, subscription status, interest tags, and assessment result if you requested a result document.
Stripe. Payment processing. Stripe handles card or bank-payment information directly. We may receive transaction status, transaction identifiers, and contact or shipping information needed to administer a purchase.
Google Analytics / MonsterInsights. Website measurement and reporting. Google receives site-usage and device information according to the site’s Analytics configuration.
Hostinger. Website hosting and infrastructure, including server logs and the database in which site form submissions and assessment answer-level records are stored.
Email delivery and notification systems. Form notifications and business correspondence may be transmitted through the email services configured for the site.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use personal information for another company’s third-party targeted advertising. We disclose information to the service providers and platforms described above so they can perform the functions for which they are used.
Cookies and similar technologies
The assessment uses a short-lived session cookie so that progress survives movement between questions. It expires within approximately one hour.
Google Analytics may use first-party cookies or similar technologies to measure site activity. Caching or performance tools may also use technical cookies. We do not intentionally place advertising cookies for third-party behavioral advertising.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser. The assessment may not function correctly if its session cookie is blocked.
Retention
We keep information for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, to maintain business and transaction records, to honor subscription choices, to evaluate the assessment instrument, and to satisfy legal, tax, accounting, security, or dispute-related obligations. We do not keep every category for the same period.
| Record type | Period |
|---|---|
| Abandoned consulting or seminar form data | 30 days, if the form is never submitted or converted into an active enquiry or registration |
| General contact, keynote, and consulting enquiries | 48 months after last substantive contact, unless converted to an engagement or needed for a dispute |
| Seminar registration profile and open-text answers | 60 months after the seminar, then deleted or de-identified, unless the attendee enters an ongoing client relationship |
| Transaction and accounting records | For the period required by tax, accounting, and chargeback law |
| Email marketing record and identified assessment result | Until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion, plus the minimal suppression data needed to honor the opt-out |
| Assessment answer-level records, without identity | 60 months, subject to periodic review |
| Server and security logs | The operational period defined by our hosting provider |
Your choices and requests
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, ask that inaccurate information be corrected, or ask that information be deleted. Some information may need to be retained where required for tax, accounting, transaction, security, legal-claim, or similar obligations.
You may unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link in the email or by contacting us. Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent us from sending transaction or service communications that are reasonably necessary to administer a purchase, registration, or existing business relationship.
Send privacy requests to hello@martratliff.com. We will respond within the period required by applicable law.
Security
We use administrative and technical measures intended to protect information appropriate to the nature of the data and the services involved. Purchases and seminar registrations are intended for adults. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact hello@martratliff.com so the situation can be reviewed and the information removed where appropriate.
